How to Make Taki Fried Chicken?
It is so simple to prepare for this dish. You need very simple ingredients. Let’s get ready!
Ingredients (Serves 2)
- 1 whole chicken (2lb-3lb)
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 6 tbsp mirin
- 6 tbsp sugar
- 10 cups oil for frying Marinade
- 6 tsp salt
- 6 tsp ground black pepper
- 6 tsp garlic powder
- 6 tsp ginger powder
- 4 1/2 tsp katakuriko (potato starch)
- 1 1/2 tsp shichimi togarashi (Japanese seven spice)
1. Cut whole chicken into bite-size.
2. Put marinade ingredients in a bag and shake well, then put chicken pieces in a bag and shake until all are coated with the marinade.
3. Let sit for at least 30 minutes.
4. Heat oil in a pan over high heat.
5. Drain off the marinade from chicken pieces. And cook at 350F until the outside is crispy, about 5 minutes on each side depending on the size. Or you can deep fry them by adding more oil if you like extra crispy!
6. Drain well on paper towels.
Calories in Taki Fried Chicken
Calories per 1 chicken (2lb-3lb)! This is my calculation. I didn’t count calories for marinade and oil, so this dish’s calorie count might be a little bit wrong. I recommend you to use less oil if you care about your calorie intake! 😉

So, it seems like no one in the restaurant knows why they call this food “Taki Fried Chicken,” and we never asked! Haha.
And also, some people think the name comes from the sound of frying, taku taku! We can’t find any info about that either. However, it’s still fun to eat Taki Fried Chicken at Japanese or Asian restaurants, especially with friends and family!
